IMOS - Carbon Emissions Financials Setup & Settlement

Carbon emissions costs can be settled through several workflows in IMOS, and the available options vary by regulation. Regardless of settlement method, these costs are reflected in the voyage Profit and Loss, included in accruals, and captured in financial reporting.

Business Rules Setup

The Carbon Emissions Business Rules page define how IMOS posts EU ETS, FuelEU, and UK ETS Maritime transactions to the General Ledger. Each row maps a transaction source and code combination to the accounts that should be debited and credited, so emissions costs flow through the Voyage P&L and into the GL consistently, regardless of which counterparty owns the obligation or how the cost is ultimately settled.

FuelEU Settlement

Fuel EU settlement costs can be handled three ways: as a standalone invoice, included in the Time Charter contract, or included in the Freight invoice. Check out the page Invoicing FuelEU Maritime Costs to learn more.

EU ETS Settlement

For EU ETS, settlement is more involved. Costs can be settled through a Cash Invoice, where emissions expenses are invoiced separately between counterparties, or through an Allowance Invoice, which reflects the physical transfer of EU Allowances (EUAs). Check out the EU ETS Cash and Allowance Settlement Workflows page to learn more.

UK ETS Settlement

Check out the UK ETS homepage for a brief introduction to this topic. UK ETS settlement workflows are currently in development.

Off Hire Emissions

The offhire emissions workflow in IMOS calculates EU ETS and FuelEU emissions for each delay you enter on the Delays form, exposes the per-delay totals in the Carbon Calculator, and surfaces the resulting costs in a dedicated section of the Voyage P&L. From there, the costs can flow into the related Time Charter invoicing, Freight invoicing, FuelEU Pooling Journals, and accruals.
