How are EU ETS Costs and Fuel EU Costs calculated when "Apply Carbon Expenses to Period" is Enabled?

When the "Apply Carbon Expenses to Period" checkbox is enabled in Monthly Accruals, the system does not simply prorate expenses across the voyage. Instead, it accrues costs based on actualized emissions, using the bunker consumption data recorded in the voyage.

The calculation is more precise, relying on real noon report data rather than estimated, when available.

Calculation Formula
The system uses the following formula for each fuel type:

Actual Fuel Consumption * Phase-In % * ETS % * CO₂ Factor / Currency Exchange Rate * CO₂ Price per MT

Where:

  • Actual Fuel Consumption = Actual bunker consumption recorded for the period (from voyage noon reports)

  • Phase-In % = Regulatory phase-in percentage

  • ETS % = EU ETS applicability percentage (based on voyage legs inside/outside the EU)

  • CO₂ Factor = CO₂ emissions factor for the fuel type

  • Currency Exchange Rate = Conversion rate between cost currency and reporting currency

  • CO₂ Price per MT = Market or fixed price of CO₂ per metric ton

If no actual bunker consumption is available, the system falls back to using estimated from the Carbon Calculator module.
